Eliza Peterson was a Texas and national leader in the woman’s temperance movement and suffrage movement. She served as president of the African American division of the Texas Woman’s Temperance Union (WCTU). Peterson traveled and spoke widely until the prohibition movement reached success with the ratification of the Eighteen Amendment to the Constitution.
