Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorship- Do you ever feel like you're just dragging and maybe you need an art project to fire you up?
Well, I am Mrs. Fred, and I have the best art project for you so let's check it out.
(gentle music) The word of the day is repetition.
So, the word of the day is repetition.
So, the word of the day is repetition.
I'm trying to show you what repetition is before we get started with our art project.
Repetition is when something repeats over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again.
And we see repetition a lot in pattern.
So a pattern is when something repeats over and over and over again.
And it can be a line, a shape, a color, or design.
For example, we have this bag that has a ton of pattern in it, and you can see that the flowers repeat over and over and over.
And then before we actually start with our project, every time we kick off with our art motto and our art motto goes a little something like this, you're gonna try your best, be creative, and problem-solve.
We do this with every single lesson.
Now, let's see what our goals are for today.
We are going to learn about repetition, we're gonna use that repetition to create a dragon eye, and we're gonna problem solve and fill the whole page.
The materials we're using today are simple, paper, pencil, eraser, marker, coloring tools, and your imagination.
To get started, we're gonna use a big organic shape on the page.
That's just a made up shape.
We're gonna outline it a little bit, a few lines.
(upbeat music) Next, we're gonna make the dragon eye.
And you can use any shape you want for the pupil.
And here's a little shine mark here and there to make it look all poppy and great.
This step is pretty important.
We're gonna be using lots of repetitive shapes to create the scales of our dragon eye.
(upbeat music) You can use any shape that you like, but fill your page with lots and lots of shapes around that dragon eye.
(upbeat music) Now, I'm just gonna trace and color and have a lot of fun embellishing and making this dragon eye come to life.
(upbeat music) When I color my scales, I'm just gonna start with the light color and then add some darker colors over the top to make it really stand out.
However, you create, your dragon eye is gonna be totally awesome.
(upbeat music) And there you have it.
Did we do our job today?
Yes, we did because we used lots of repetition.
Look at all those repeated shapes, they repeat over and over and over and over again.
Yes, we have a little variety to break it up.
And we filled our whole page, so that's great.
And we did problem solve along the way.
I kind of ran into a couple of areas where I needed to do extra shading and I think it turned out great.
This is a great project for any level artist.
We definitely did our job.
Thanks for being with me today.
This was a lot of fun.
I hope you enjoyed drawing your dragon eye even though it's not to scale.
(laughs) I hope you have a great day.
And just remember, keep on arting.
(dramatic music)
