Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorship- So, who wants to give me a hand for today's art lesson?
(shrieking voice) I said give me a hand.
Oh, well.
Okay, well, let's get going.
(upbeat music) Hi, I am Mrs. Fred, and today I have a really fun drawing lesson for you.
We are gonna be doing a contour line-drawing technique, and that is just a fancy way of saying we are drawing the outline of your object.
Now, we are also going to be doing a technique called continuous line contour drawing.
And really, the fun part of that is you are not allowed to pick you a pencil up off the paper, because it's a continuous line.
And today we are gonna bring all that information together to make zombie hands (laughs evilly).
(dog barks) Before we do that, we've gotta try our best, be creative, and problem-solve.
Let's put this up on the board because it's really important and we use it in every lesson.
So now let's find out what our goals are.
Today's art goals are to learn about a drawing technique called continuous line contour drawing.
We're gonna combine observational drawing, tracing, and imaginative drawing to create a zombie hand.
The art materials needed for today are paper, pencil, eraser, colored pencils, and your imagination.
All right, to get started, what we're gonna do is just trace our hand.
After that, we're gonna really do some observational drawing.
We're gonna check out the details of our hands and really try to capture those on the page with continuous line contour drawing.
Now that is where you do not pick the pencil up off of the page.
That really helps to gather all of those really nice gruesome zombie details.
Don't forget things like the lines for your knuckles, fingernails, any bumps or things on your hands that really show personality.
(offbeat uplifting music) The next step is my favorite.
This is where we can erase and embellish, and really zombify our hands.
Be really creative and show cuts, and gashes, and bruises, and little bits of bones and stitches.
Have fun dreaming up whatever zombie things you like for your hand.
(upbeat music) I do like to do a bit of outlining before coloring just to really make those details pop to the front of the page.
Now, adding color, make sure you start really light and layer lots of different colors on in unexpected ways, and that's what really gets our zombie hand looking bruised and gruesome.
Have fun with this part and make it your own.
Now we have a zombie hand.
So did we do our job today?
Yes, I think we did.
We did a drawing technique called continuous line contour drawing.
We used observational drawing by looking at our hand.
We did some tracing and imaginative drawing by adding all these little zombie bits.
And all together, we created this wonderfully creepy zombie hand.
Thanks for joining me today.
Thanks for giving me a hand.
I gotta go 'cause it's snack time (mouth crunches).
Delicious.
